American Specter blog tour: Interview featuring Rasheedah Prioleau

Today I am really glad to have Rasheedah, the author of American Specter, on the blog. I had a chance to interview her about her debut, but first her are the details about her book.

Book Description

FBI Agent Audra Wheeler has been haunted for the last thirteen years by a paranormal attack that left her sister, Kendra, in a coma. Mentored by FBI Assistant Director Jonathan Cordero to investigate crimes committed by specters, Audra believes she is on the trail of a ‘serial killer’ specter with a MO very similar to her sister’s attacker. The investigation takes her to a small town of Specter, Georgia; a haven for ghosts who exist among the living.

So good to have you here with us, Rasheedah. American Specter sounds really wonderfully creepy, right up my alley. Tell us a bit about the story.

The story follows an FBI Agent, Audra Wheeler, who rescued her sister from a paranormal attack when she was just a teenager. But, the attack leaves her sister in a coma. When ghosts and specters show up and become the “norm” Audra begins to suspect that earlier attack could have been a specter’s handiwork. When other victims turn up she follows that instinct and it leads her to Specter, Georgia which turns out to be a haven for ghosts.

Specter. The city sounds as spine-chilling as the story. Describe this town in one short paragraph (without spoilers) so our readers can get an idea.

Well, it is a typical small southern town with a town square. The relationship between the specters and the living is one of peaceful but cautious coexistence. The specters have their supporters as well as their sceptics. When Audra comes to town with her theory of a spectre serial killer it definitely sets the town on edge and strains that peaceful coexistence.

What makes FBI Agent Audra Wheeler special? Does she have any quirks?

The thing I like most about Audra is that she goes with her instincts even when it can cost her career. She’s not afraid to face the evils of the past to get to the truth. It definitely would be easy for her to just leave things alone, but she’s not looking for the easy way out.

She doesn’t have any quirks per se, but the people and entities around her certainly do. My favourite being a specter called Gwyn. In life Gwyn was the traditional bookworm wallflower. But, as a spectre she’s taken on a flare for dramatics that help Audra along the way.

My motto is, put yourself in your character's shoes. What would you do if you were in Audra's shoes?

I would never want to be in Audra’s shoes. One reason being that she’s constantly surrounded by death. One thing she reflects on in the book is the fact that not all of the specters were able to live a long and full life. There are children, and teenage, and young adult specters. They all died. I would not want to be in the thick of facing that on a daily basis.

Is this a series? Do you have other upcoming releases?

This is a series. I do have other upcoming releases. My Science Fiction Romance Novella Series Amullette Rose will release it’s next bookAmullette Aflame in time for the summer heat. The sequel to this noel: American Specter: Winter Solstice will release in time for Christmas 2014.

As a writer, we usually have special quotes in the stories we write. What's your favourite in American Specter?

“There are some souls that are too good for this Earth.” Every time I think of tragedy and people who parish before their time, especially when it’s due to senseless violence I think it must be because they really are beautiful people who are too good for the human condition.

Thank you so much for stopping by, Rasheedah! :)

I stepped into his space, backed him up against the counter, and leant real close so that only he and I could hear what I was about to say.  “Now would be the right time for you and your family to leave.  I don’t like any of the shit that’s just gone down, so unless you want trouble between the two of us, leave now,” I threatened.   When I saw him hesitate, I grabbed a handful of his shirt and snarled, “Did you not understand what I just said, motherfucker?”  We glared at each other for a couple of moments before I let him go, shoving him hard against the counter in the process.  Keeping my eyes trained on his, I slowly stepped back.  Planting my legs wide, I crossed my arms in front of my chest and scowled at him.

Harlow opened her mouth to say something but I caught the movement and flicked my gaze to her for a second, giving her a clear message to stay out of it.  She shut her mouth and glared back at me, her eyes widening in a ‘what the fuck’ type gesture.  That shocked the shit out of me, and my concentration was diverted from the asshole to her.  I’d never been given that look by a chick before; usually it was J or Nash who challenged me like that.  I raised my eyebrows at her, and fuck me if she didn’t raise hers right fucking back.

Fierce is the second book in the Storm MC series by Nina Levine.

Besides reading, her favorite 'thing' is traveling - she has traveled the world, learning about the ways people live and has come to the realization that no matter where we live, we all ultimately want the same things. Her hobby - Scrapbooking - keeps her up till way after midnight and her usual subjects are her family and her travels.

Ever since she can remember, Jani wanted to write stories about people, about their lives and loves. Relationships and Happiness - arguably the most difficult things to master in life and yet exactly what everyone ultimately desires (in her humble opinion).

Genre: Contemporary Romance | Novella

A deadly accident can take a life in more than one way.

Four years ago, Carlene Adams made a deadly mistake. A tragic accident derailed the future she'd hoped for, taking the life of the man she'd planned to spend forever with.

As a self-imposed penance for her solitary sin, Carlene has given up on every dream she ever had. She has committed to spend every remaining moment trying to make up for that one instance when everything changed.

Then she gets a second chance.

When Carlene meets Nick Johnson, the single kiss they share awakens the desires she shoved aside for so long. Suddenly she wants more than what she believe she deserves. Will she ever see him again? And if she does, what will that mean for her?

A thing of fate.

Leaving the life she built on regret, Carlene waits for fate to intervene. But just as she begins to believe in a fresh start, she's forced to realize a horrible truth—one with the power to send her second chance crashing before it even takes off.

Nick isn't who she thought he was. She isn't the girl he believed her to be, either. Their lives were intertwined even before they met, and if Carlene tells him the truth, she’ll risk tearing them apart—for good.

** Due to sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18. **

My thoughts:

I really loved this novella! Carlene has never had an easy life, but she has really wonderful friends, and works in a homeless shelter. After a happenstance meet with Nick, she feels a connection to him she hasn't felt in a long time but life has thrown a few curveballs at her so she's cautious about who she lets in her heart. She later decides to step out of her comfort zone, and leave the shelter and look for job, start life a fresh.
This is a short story, about 104 pages on Amazon, and I really enjoyed every single scene in this story, but what I really loved the most was the twist at the end of the story. Nick is confident, so gentle with Carlene and really hot at the same time. *swoon* Wohoo! I can't wait to read the second novella in this series, Rekindled Moments, when it releases in February.

Review Stop + Giveaway: Catch by Solange Poirier

Welcome to my stop for the Catch blog tour, organized by Grapevine Book Tours.

Title: Catch
Author: Solange Poirier
Series: Assassins #1
Publication: September 12th, 2013
Category: Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Sometimes, being in the wrong place at the wrong time is where you need to be for the good things in life to fall into place.

Max Brady is a 25 year old, fresh out of college, ambitious woman that doesn't take crap from anyone, and often uses men before tiring and disposing of them. She’s landed her dream job at the internet search engine company Fiddle. Unfortunately, she is stuck working as an assistant to the company’s CEO, but she’s hopeful that if she plays nice, one day she’ll be promoted.

Catch is an assassin. He’s been working this job for twelve years and now with his family taken care of he is ready to retire. All he wants to do is complete his last assignment, collect his large sum of cash, and then disappear to a nice, quiet place in another country.

When Max makes the huge mistake of sleeping with her boss, she decides to copy some files from his computer to hold as leverage in the event that he may try to fire her. Little does she know, the files hold secrets that can take down her boss and the entire Fiddle company.

That decision changes the course of both of their lives.

Catch is hired to kidnap and kill Max, but instead he chooses to save her life. They go on the run as he tries to formulate a plan to remove the hit on Max, because he believes that she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. As they spend more time together, Catch’s motivation for saving her life changes with his realization that if anything happens to Max he may be unable to live without her.

My thoughts:

CATCH is one hell of a story.

The story starts off with Catch, being given an assignment on his next hit, but something bothers him, and feels something is not right, but he doesn't question it. It's his last assignment after all. Until he meets Max.

Max just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when she innocently does something, which in her opinion will act as leverage when the time comes. What she doesn't know is that, she has unknowingly walked into a minefield, and Catch is about to descend on her like a dark cloud.

What follows is a chase of sorts as Catch does everything to save Max.

Wow, talk about a swoonworthy Alpha! Catch is that and more. Max is feisty, and holds onto control like she's holding onto her last breath. What a wonderful pair!
This book is fast paced, and hot, hot, hot. I highly recommend this book! I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Text by Cambria Hebert : Review Stop

Text Blog Tour Banner   Text by Cambria Hebert ebooksm (1) add-to-goodreads-button31

One text can change everything.
Honor Calhoun never thought her life would ever be like the books she writes for a living. One morning while out for a run, she learns not all bad things are plots in novels. Some horrors can actually come true.
She faces off with a persistent attacker, holds her own, but in the end is taken hostage and thrown into a hole. In the middle of the woods.
But Honor didn’t go down there alone.
She took her kidnapper’s phone with her. With a spotty signal and a dying battery, her hope is slim.
Nathan Reed is an active duty Marine stationed at a small reserve base in Pennsylvania. All he wants is a calm and uneventful duty station where he can forget the memories of his time in a war-torn country.
But a single text changes everything.
Nathan becomes Honor’s only hope for survival, and he has to go against the clock, push aside his past, and take on a mission for a girl he’s never met.
Both of them want freedom… but they have to survive long enough to obtain it.
***This is a new adult contemporary novel and contains sexual content and graphic language. It is not intended for young adult readers.***

My thoughts:

I was really excited to read this book, especially since it's written in dual POV. I enjoyed reading the book, though I had a few difficulties with it. First the characters are awesome. Nathan is retired Marine and Honor is a writer. The book started off really well, full of suspense, and I kept reading, my ipad clutched in my hands, waiting and wanting to see what happens.
It kind of went off the rails for me when on several occasions, the situation she was in and what had nearly happened clashed with how she was supposed to react. Or someone in her situation would act.
All in all, this is an enjoyable story, and if you are looking for a good contemporary romance, pick this one up!

Overall rating:  3 stars

Nathan flashed a grin in the darkness. I longed to see him in the light. I wanted to know the angles and planes of his face. I wanted to take in his features and truly see the man who had literally saved my life. Nathan seemed oblivious to my thoughts as I watched him tidy up the first aid kit. Before he put it on the floor, he glanced at me. “Where else are you hurt?” “I won’t be requiring any more Band-Aids,” I quipped. He turned to look at me fully. His hand closed over mine and he gently took the flashlight from my grasp and clicked it off. “What about your ribs?” “I don’t think you have anything in that kit for them.” “Let me see them.” “Wh-what?” My mouth ran dry. He wanted to look under my shirt? “I want to see them.” “That’s not really necessary—” He studied me and then thrust his hand out in the space between us. “Hey, I’m Nathan Reed. It’s nice to meet you.” I wanted to laugh. We were a little beyond a formal introduction. But it was fun (hey, you try being kidnapped and beaten and see what you consider fun), so I slid my hand into his. “I’m Honor.” He held my hand a little longer than he needed to, his thumb brushing over the inside of my wrist. I caught myself right before I started purring like a cat. That would have been hella embarrassing. “I’m a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. My favorite color is green, and I like football.” “What are you doing?” I asked, thoroughly charmed by him. “Formally introducing myself so you’ll let me under your shirt.” I laughed. “I usually don’t let men I just met under my shirt.” “I’m irresistible.” I smiled. “And so modest.”
